Ikat is a resist-dyeing technique traditionally used in many parts of Southeast Asia. The yearn are tightly bound with a resist in places and dyed. Sometimes the process is repeated several times, often with re-applying the bindings to different areas of the yarn and using different dyes. The yarn is then woven into fabric, which creates a distinct “feathered” colour patterns on the finished textile.
Our “Ikat” carpets are not woven with resist-dyed silk – it just does not apply to knotted rugs, – but their design patterns are inspired by the textiles produced using this technique.
